Lucy Curley
Dressage Instructor/Driving Instructor

One of the original, founding members of CWDS, Lucy Curley has been teaching dressage lessons over a 46 year span. Lucy moved to Yakima from California where she was a member of CDS. She also spent time in England studying teaching methods thru the British Horse Society. In Yakima, Lucy spent two years eventing with her $200 Anglo-arab gelding, because dressage activities were nonexistent at that time. She soon began teaching as a way to recruit riders for clinics and shows and eventually there were enough riders to form CWDS. At first it was beginners who just wanted to ride a horse, then it was riders wanting the discipline and finesse of Dressage. Over the years they came together to sponsor clinicians and offer both schooling and recognized shows because of a mutual desire for better riding skills.

Under the instruction of Mike Osinski, Lucy competed into the FEI levels, earning her Bronze medal & several silver medal scores before age caughtup with both horse and rider. She was fortunate to have had two wonderful partners on her way up the levels: Apache Many Penny (Hank) who competed thru Prix St. George, even though it was not expected of him, and Jakarta (Jackie) who retired from the FEI levels to become a wonderful school master. The three of them (Lucy, Hank & Jackie) continued riding together as Senior citizens, which has given Lucy a unique perspective for teaching older riders.

Currently, Lucy is driving and competing with miniature horses while also teaching her mounted dressage students. She has learned that driving also requires the good basic skills of Dressage!
